1 inch NPS has an actual outside diameter of 1.315 inches, not 1.000 inches. This gap applies across NPS 12 and smaller. At NPS 14 and larger, the nominal size corresponds numerically to the actual OD in inches (14 inch NPS has a 14.000 inch OD).

Schedule 40 vs STD
STD (Standard Weight) matches Schedule 40 for NPS 1/8 through 10. At NPS 12 and larger, STD diverges (0.375 in STD versus 0.406 in Schedule 40 at 12 inch NPS). The equivalence is size dependent, not universal.

XS (Extra Strong) corresponds to Schedule 80, not Schedule 40, for applicable sizes (NPS 1/8 through 8).
